Utah State University Helping Students Return to School

As a result of the COVID-19 global pandemic, many students across the United States were forced to put their educational goals on hold. To assist Utah residents in achieving their educational goals and return to school, Utah State University is offering a variety of scholarship opportunities to help students start or finish their degree.

“We are thrilled to be able to support students in achieving their higher education dreams with as few barriers as possible,” stated Robert Wagner, vice president for Academic & Instructional Services. “A college degree can change someone’s life, and those individuals can make positive impacts and contributions in Utah communities. As Utah’s land-grant university, USU is devoted to educating students across the state with a quality education and these scholarships will help make finishing their degree easier.”

USU is providing multiple scholarships to qualified individuals whose educational plans were disrupted by COVID-19, continuing their educational journey at USU after time away, or first-time looking to finally be able to begin their college education. Through funding made available through the State of Utah’s portion of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA), USU is working to make sure every dollar available is distributed to students in need.

This scholarship campaign is a follow-up to the Ivory campaign that provided more than $80,000 in scholarships to 33 students looking to return to USU and finish the degrees they had put on hold. Through this round of scholarships, students will once again have the opportunity to receive financial assistance as they return to school after putting their goals on hiatus.

Several types of scholarships are being offered to students. The Returning Aggie Scholarship is available to previous students to help them restart their education at USU. The scholarship is available to students at any USU location with preference given to students closest to bachelor’s degree completion.

As the pandemic disrupted the education plans of many students, USU staff reached out to students, inviting them to return to USU with the Aggie Strong Scholarship. The scholarship was available to students who were enrolled at USU but left in 2020 and did not return. Eligible students are to receive full-tuition and fees scholarship for the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters.
