Five Research-Based Practices that Promote Engagement

We know students bring more than their brains to class. Research has shown that increased feelings of belonging, autonomy, and competence can increase engagement and improve learning outcomes. Orienting your material in a way that is personally relevant to your students and having an awareness of social comparison are also impactful to students’ learning experiences. This Sparkshop will share how you can implement these ideas into your instructional practices, classroom environment, and the behind-the-scenes administrative work you do to keep a course running. As with all Sparkshops, there will be opportunities for exploring and learning from one another.
